In its current guise the Tesla Model 3 isn’t a performance model, but that hasn’t stopped people from taking it to the drag strip to see how quick it is.

The YouTube channel i1Tesla just shared a video of a new Model 3 drag racing a Tesla Model S 75D at a one-eighth mile drag strip. The Model S reaches the end of the strip faster than the Model 3.

According to the video’s host, the Model 3 performed the 0-60 mph run in 4.9 seconds. That’s quicker than Tesla’s own claim of 0-60 in 5.1 seconds. Many things factor in to those times, including ambient temperature, tire wear, driver and more. As more owners take delivery of Model 3s, expect to see more videos like this showing us repeated runs where we can draw more concrete conclusions.

In a second video shared, i1Tesla showed the same Tesla Model 3 running a drag race against a Ford EcoBoost Mustang. The EcoBoost Mustang makes 310 horsepower and 350 pounds-feet of torque. The Mustang completes the run in 9.3 seconds and the Model 3 does it in 8.7 seconds.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said there will be a performance version of the Model 3, and that it will include Ludicrous Mode. Model 3 production has been plagued with delays, so there is no indication from Tesla when that release will happen.
