Ford has filed a rather peculiar patent.

The patent was filed by Ford Global Technologies and depicts a unicycle that resembles a Ryno being stored in the trunk of a Ford vehicle.

Once removed, the owner would be able to take a rear wheel from their car and fit it onto the unicycle, allowing you keep using one of your wheels once the car is parked. A motor would be supported on the hub that is coupled to the wheel to rotate the wheel relative to the hub, according to the patent.

The patent also describes how the unicycle’s motor could be used to propel the vehicle.

It’s unclear whether Ford has a relationship with Ryno or another unicycle manufacturer to put this patent to use, but it does conjure up how the Batpod and Batmobile work in Christopher Nolan’s Batman films.
