The new 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe will spawn hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, the Korean automaker announced at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show this week.

The new Santa Fe, which was shown to the public for the first time in Geneva, will be offered with three powertrains from launch: a 2.4-liter four-cylinder, a 2.0-liter turbo and a 200 hp turbodiesel. All engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and Hyundai’s HTRAC AWD system. Eventually, both hybrid and plug-in versions will join the lineup, although very little is known about either of the electrified variants.

For 2019, for the Santa Fe has ditched the Santa Fe Sport model, with the short wheelbase version now referred to as the Santa Fe, and the long-wheelbase version receiving the Santa Fe XL name. It’s not clear if the hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains will be offered on both Santa Fe and Santa Fe XL models, but it seems likely.

The hybrid and plug-in hybrid Hyundai Santa Fe will join the Ioniq hybrid, plug-in and EV, Sonata hybrid and plug-in and Kona Electric in Hyundai’s green vehicle lineup.
