In the latest salvo between Hyundai and Toyota for hybrid vehicle market share, Hyundai is now offering incentives to entice Toyota Prius owners to make the switch.

Through Oct. 2, 2017, current owners and lessees of all versions of the Prius are now eligible for a $1,000 conquest bonus when purchasing any Ioniq Hybrid.

Since going on sale six months ago, Hyundai has trekked very cautiously in offering cash back awards or other types of incentives – unusual compared to competitor Prius which is known for its discount offers. This unadvertised offer is the Ioniq’s first since its release.

In addition, Hyundai is offering 0 percent APR for 60 months or 1.9 percent APR for 72 months and a lease of $210 for 36 months with $1,999 due at signing on 12,000 miles. The $1,000 credit is applicable toward a lease or purchase.

With a starting price of $22,200, the Ioniq achieves 55 mpg in the city and 54 mpg on the highway.

Compared to the Prius, its base model is approximately $2,300 less with 18 more horsepower. However, the Prius beats the Ioniq with superior reliability scores and a greater number of safety features.
