Google is setting up shop in Michigan, near the Detroit Big Three.

The tech giant has been working on self-driving cars and will open a self-driving technology department in Novi, Michigan. Google said that it has spent the past few years working from the Greater Detroit area and many of its current partners are based there, so it made sense to build its self-driving technology department in Michigan. The local facility will serve as a hub to help Google collaborate more easily, while accessing Michigan’s top talent in vehicle development and engineering.

The new building will be a 53,000-square foot facility with engineers and local partners working together to develop and refine self-driving technology. One of the company’s first tasks will be to outfit the Chrysler Pacifica hybrid minivans with self-driving technology.

Google released the above image of the facility, noting that it has quite a bit of work to do before it feels like home. It does however, plan to start moving in throughout 2016.
