What's up with rumours of a Google funded 100 MPH PHEV for the USA?

The "Google Boys" Sergey Brin and Larry Page are both big investors in Tesla Motors - the electric exotic sports car manufacturer. I don't know of but wouldn't be surprised of any investment in PHEV enterprises as well.
