BMW has detailed the new X5 xDrive 45e iPerformance, which will arrive in the United States in 2020.

The automaker says the X5 xDrive 45e iPerformance for America may have slightly different specifications than the version for Europe, which is pictured here. The numbers mentioned in this article are therefore subject to change for the US model, but we’re not expecting a major departure from the Euro-spec version. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s see what this new hybrid SUV is all about.

Under the hood of the X5 xDrive 45e iPerformance is a 3.0-liter inline-six engine making 286 hp. The engine is paired with a 112 hp electric motor, giving the vehicle a total system output of 394 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is BMW’s eight-speed Steptronic automatic, which sends to all wheels through BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system. The German brand claims a 0-62 mph time of 5.2s and a top speed of 146 mph. The pure-electric top speed, meanwhile, sits at a respectable 140 km/h.

All X5 xDrive45e iPerformance models will also get two-axle air-suspension as standard, along with electronically controlled dampers. An integral active steering system is offered as well.

The X5 xDrive45e iPerformance is available with all of the options offered on the standard BMW X5, including the same interior and exterior options and BMW’s various driver assistance systems. Pricing for this European model has yet to be announced, but the standard X5 xDrive 50i starts at $60,700 in the United States.

Look for the X5 xDrive45e iPerformance to arrive at U.S. BMW dealers in 2020 as a 2021 model year vehicle.
