Acura has taken the wraps off the 2017 Acura MDX Sport Hybrid at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

The MDX has a new look, and along with that comes an available hybrid powertrain that pairs a 3.0-liter V6 with an integrated electric motor and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The V6/electric motor combo power the front wheels, while two electric motors drive the rear wheels. Total system horsepower is 325, up 35 from the non-hybrid model, and the drivetrain uses torque vectoring along with the all-wheel-drive layout.

Acura is estimating an EPA fuel-economy rating of 25 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, 26 mpg combined for the hybrid model. That’s a seven mpg boost over the non-hybrid MDX with AWD.

Two key option packages will be available with the MDX Sport Hybrid – the Technology and Advance packages. Both of those package will add a sport suspension that’s intended to improve ride and handling, and both will offer four drive modes: Comfort, Normal, Sport, and exclusive to the hybrid, a Sport+ mode.

All 2017 MDX models, hybrid or not, will be getting Acura’s AcuraWatch package of driver assistance tech. AcuraWatch blends together driver’s aid features like lane departure warning, collision mitigation braking and automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, a low-speed following system, and road-departure mitigation. It does so to help prevent collisions, to mitigate the damage from collision that might occur, and to help make freeway slogs easier for drivers. It’s also likely to help consumers prepare for a future in which cars become ever more autonomous.
