An updated 2014 Fiat 500 will be revealed at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show later this week.

The Italian company stated a new TwinAir engine will debut in the 2014 Fiat 500. The new 105 horsepower 0.9 liter TwinAir Turbo, the newest member of award-winning TwinAir engine family, employs technologies like a turbocharger, an exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head, a Start&Stop system and the new MultiAir II intake valve control system to provide what the company states is an even more enticing combination of power and efficiency.

Thos new engine will come standard with a six-speed manual gearbox. The 0.9 TwinAir engine will deliver its full power of 105 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 107 pounds-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm in Sport mode while it will provide 98 horsepower and 89 pound-feet of torque in ‘eco’ mode.

Fiat explained in Sport mode, the new 500 will have a 0 to 62mph acceleration time of 10 seconds and a top speed of 117 mph while still achieving 67 mpg (UK) on the official combined European fuel economy cycle.

Fiat 500 models powered by the TwinAir 105 horsepower engine are said to also be equipped with rear disc brakes as standard.

Fiat said a big new element of the interior of this updated 500 is a new seven-inch TFT digital instrument display. The TFT display, developed in collaboration with Magnetti Marelli, brings together all the information required for controlling the car and its functions without disrupting the retro aesthetics of the interior.

The seven-inch TFT screen can also display media player and telephone information and, when fitted with a TomTom 2 LIVE satnav system, navigation information also appears in the display, including junction graphics and real time traffic updates, added Fiat.

Finally, the TFT screen reconfigures when the Sport button is activated on models equipped with the new 0.9 liter TwinAir Turbo engine. The ‘eco’ display, which measures how efficiently the driver is performing, transforms into a turbo-boost gauge.

Europe sees a full engine range available in the 2014 FIAT 500: the 69 horsepower 1.2-liter; the 85 horsepower 0.9 liter TwinAir Turbo (both also available with the Dualogic gearbox); the 95 horsepower 1.3 MultiJet II Turbo Diesel and the new 105 horsepower 0.9 liter TwinAir Turbo.

It is not yet known whether the new engine will make it on our side of the Atlantic and what its fuel consumption rating will be once in the U.S.
