The E-RUNNER EV driven by Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima was stopped short with smoke coming from its motor at last weekend’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
If it had been able to finish, the 62-year-old driver might have added to his already impressive string of wins dating back to 1988. Since then, Tajima has taken top honors at Pike Peak 11 times, and has won the event the last six years.
The car, did get to do a preliminary run, which you can see in two videos using cameras positioned in different spots.
No ordinary eco-EV, this all-wheel drive carbon-bodied car utilizes an aluminum space frame. A pair of electric motors are powered by a lithium-ion battery – but power output is unknown.
Tajima was aiming to best his record 9 minute, 51.278-second run made last year and it’s believed this car did have the power to do that.
