Right.... that's why beta beat VHS... and why laser disk is still around... Sales follow marketing.

Personally I think it looks even better than the second generation prius which I also liked, (never was a fan of the first)...

I think the Ford Fusion, while not outright ugly, is not really exciting either. Imagine that! There is a market out there for more than one car... I do look forward to the eventual true plug-in however and think this add is awfully deceptive in that regard. Not that them plugging in the overhead lights is a new concept in advertising done a dozen times before, but relating a plugging action like that in with a hybrid and people are going to ignorantly assume that means the vehicle is a plug in too.

Form follows function!

Who cares what the car looks like if it is more aerodynamic and fuel efficient. Who cares how they advertise it. If it is a better product it should and will sell.

I liked the old one.

This new one has a really eugly front end.

Like a 1990 civic.

Toyota has lost it. They are now last year even using old school adverts like the blue men.

Ford fusion for me too.

generally turbos are not seen as viable in a series hybrid application due to turbocharger durability issues. In place of turbo chargers, many engines are recieving direct injection to boost horsepower and fuel economy. This is present in the crossovers by GM and Ford and will soon be introduced into their sedans. (actually already in the Cadillac CTS) The only exception being the future Chevrolet Cruze….though I shouldn’t say future, because it is actually already being produced in 2 separate factories…..no wait 3 actually, (St. Petersburg, somewhere in China, and somewhere in Korea) it is the turbo charged engine that we are waiting on here in the states.

Toyota can milk their parallel hybrid dominance for at least another decade until proper (diesel) series hybrids get some market penetration (Chevy Volt diesel turbo series hybrid, anyone?).

Honda's Insight is a weak hybrid, re-issued in a bigger body. The purported Ford Fusion hybrid is probably the closest to direct competition to the Camry hybrid, if Ford can figure out how to market and support it and get some real market penetration.

No competition to the parallel hybrid Prius in sight, pending leap-frogging to series hybrids. I suppose if VW did a Jetta TDI diesel turbo parallel hybrid. It'd be cheaper and easier to just go directly to series hybrid, though, not sure the turbo would add bang for the buck in a series hybrid setup.

The next prius will have a traditional hybrid drivetrain with no plug-in ability. In 2011 or 2012 a prius will be available with a plug-in capability, but this will not for pure electric drive, but merely to enhance the power in the parallel hybrid drivetrain. The Carpocalypse may have pushed this date back though. (for those of you who want to know what the Carpocalypse is…….go to Jalopnik.com)

Did I miss something here? The promo seems to suggest that the next prius is plug in.

That would be great news but I have not heard that anywhere else.

Why did they choose the Blue Man Group to promote the new car? They were a 90's phenom, but are now a cheesy Vegas act. The joke around Vegas is that they are called the Blue Hair Group, due to the type of audiences they attract at their shows.

Better watch it...it may give GM an idea to bring back old Vegas strip acts like Shecky Green, or Chrysler to use Wayne Newton to promote their cars.
