Toronto Film Festival Attendees Offered Chance For Free Leaf Taxi Rides

Inspired by Nissan’s trial of offering free taxi rides in London, Nissan Canada offered free rides to select Tweeters this past weekend during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

To hail the Leaf taxi, prospective passengers were asked to send a tweet that incorporates the hashtag “#LEAFTAXI” and their chosen destination. Out of these, people were chosen at random and contacted via @reply by @nissancanada and offered to be chauffeured in one of two professionally driven Leafs during this year’s festivities in downtown Toronto.

The two Nissan zero-emissions, lithium-ion battery-powered Nissan Leaf taxis operated in the entertainment district as far north as Dundas Street, east as York Street, west as Bathurst and as south as Front Street. The taxi rides ran from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The event was promoted as an all-around win for Nissan and eco-conscious TIFF event goers who for their part got to sample Nissan’s 107-horsepower and 207 pound-feet of emissions-free mobility for up to four passengers in Toronto’s urban setting.

How do these work for taxis that are on the road 24 hours a day? How long does it take to charge and what is the range? My cars go 200-300 miles per 12 hour shift.
