In Dec. '03 our 98 Honda CRX was getting old and we wanted to give it to a grandson. I compared Prius and Civic Hybrids, went shopping for Prius, none on lots, could not even drive one, 8 month waiting list. Priced Civic Hybrids on web, got price quote and looked at the model and options we wanted at town 30 mi. away. Went to local Honda dealer where we bought CRX, got their price of 21000 or so, before ttl, Told them I had a quote in writing for 18,900 He talked to manager, we wrote the check and picked the car up with dealer installed options the next day. Now has 60,000 miles,on it, gets 44mpg at 73mph, 38 mpg at 75 mph or in city usually 35 mpg. <br />
We are driving it on 2400 mi trip because it costs 1/2 as much to drive as the Honda Odyssey minivan. We are environmentalists, but not rabit, things must make sense and pay in dollars. Two retirees wandering around visiting sick relatives, and old friends. We looked at Lexus BMW,etc, decided they are conspicous consumption, do cost a lot more for the nameplate.
