Tesla Responds to Model X Owner Complaints with New Windshield Sunshade

Tesla Motors is sending out a free fix-it to Model X owners unhappy about too much sunlight obstructing vision from the panoramic windshield.

As Consumer Reports’ testers have complained about, Model X owners have been voicing similar concerns. The broad windshield adds to the SUV’s aesthetic and panoramic view, but can be blinding for occupants at certain times from sunlight. Their concerns have been express via the Tesla Forum, Facebook, and a YouTube video.

Tesla has contacted owners via email to announce that a Front Upper Windshield Sunshade will be mailed to them free of charge. Currently, the Model X comes with UV coating that helps with heat but not so much with sunlight. The Model X comes with a side-mounted sunvisor, but it hasn’t been blocking sunlight enough to satisfy owners.

The new sunshade will block two thirds light and heat coming through the front upper windshield, Tesla says. It’s been designed to be lightweight and flexible to allow for easy storage and installation, the company says.

The electric carmaker provides detailed instructions on installing the new windshield sunshade through the Tesla website.
