Recently at the Model S launch in London, Tesla Motors Chairman and CEO Elon Musk divulged that the pending Model X SUV will be all-wheel-drive only, and cost a bit more than Model S.
Previously the Model X was expected to be available in rear-wheel-drive configuration as well.
Due to the more costly all-wheel-drive setup, Musk said this will marginally add to the Model S base price.
The AWD configuration will utilize two electric motors to send power to the front and rear wheel axles respectively.
The Model S is spacious and capable of as many as seven passengers including two optional seats I the rear, but the “falcon wing” door equipped Model X is expected to be more family oriented.
It promises high performance as well, and is eagerly anticipated by buyers already putting in pre-orders on Tesla’s Web site.
