A photo taken by a member of the Tesla Motors Club at an airfield reveals a Model S with “P85D” logo suggesting an upgraded new version of the S.
On Wednesday Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted, “About time to unveil the D and something else.”
As calculated by the crafty company head, the vague statement has turned on the Internet buzz mill with speculation and commentary.
A likely possibility, but not to be confirmed presumably before next week, is the D is a dual-motor version Model S with all-wheel-drive.
Would Tesla release this before the much anticipated AWD Model X? Is it even what “D” stands specifically for? If so, could it have four-wheel torque vectoring and set a new performance benchmark in handling, and maybe even be quicker too?
October 9 is the official reveal at Tesla’s Hawthorne, Calif. Design Center, and that’s when we’re told we’ll hear from Tesla what is “the D and something else.”
