JNS Holdings Corporation announced this week that it has formed a new majority owned subsidiary, Evolve USA Charging Corporation, an Illinois domiciled and based company.

Evolve USA Charging Corporation will be solely responsible for new sales, service and the development of electric vehicle charging Systems for both residential and commercial applications.

Evolve will also be responsible for administration of the recently agreed upon Asset Purchase Agreement of the Chicago Grant Agreement.

The company said that initially, upon court approval Evolve will begin operations with a network of owned and operated units that consist of 142 Level II chargers and 26 Level III DC fast chargers within the Chicago market.

Evolve will also focus on expanding its number of units with additional acquisitions and the development of new locations.

JNS expects that Evolve’s business model will allow Evolve USA Charging Corporation to own, operate and maintain a network of EV Charging Stations throughout the Chicagoland area by entering into shared revenue agreements with the owners of desired properties.

Evolve is proceeding with securing exclusive locations strategically placed within Chicago and the surrounding suburbs and in conjunction with targeted areas for our initial launch of our Electric Vehicle Charging Station infrastructure.

“The company believes that EV Charging Stations offer an excellent opportunity for revenue growth as more and more consumers seek alternatives to oil dependency and environmentally friendly options,” stated Brian Howe, Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Howe also stated, “With more and more automobile manufacturers developing electric vehicles and the cost of such vehicles coming down the need for charging stations will only increase. JNS based upon its years of experience in the electrical industry is poised and ready to seize this opportunity.”

Yesterday Bosch Automotive Service Solutions introduced Power Max, the automotive industry’s first Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station with a price point of less than $450.

According to Bosch, the Power Max will retail for roughly half the cost of current EV charging stations, offering 240-volt charging, and reducing charging time by half while helping customers reduce their need for fossil fuels.

Leveraging expertise gained in household appliances and automotive solutions, Bosch said the Power Max is UL-certified in both the United States and Canada, and is designed to safely and efficiently charge electric vehicles.

Bosch Automotive Service Solutions, formerly SPX Service Solutions, has provided more than 16,000 EV charging stations and performed more than 6,000 installations, including the SPX Power Xpress, tested by a national laboratory as the most efficient charging station on the market.

Designed to work with all electric vehicles, Power Max features focus on driver and vehicle safety and convenience; Bosch mentioned the following to describe the advantages of this charger:

- No-touch operation, making charging as simple as plugging the vehicle in and walking away

- NEMA 3R enclosure for both indoor and outdoor applications

- Standard safety features including a cord breakaway system and non-live current wire

- Visible LED indicator, indicating charging state

- Hardwired on/off switch to completely shut off power to the unit and ensure no power is consumed

- Available in 16 amp or 30 amp configurations with cord length up to 25 feet

“We believe that for the foreseeable future most EV drivers will primarily charge at home,” said Tanvir Arfi, president, Bosch Automotive Service Solutions. “Because many of the incentives available to offset the costs of purchasing and installing residential Level 2 charging stations are expiring, we believe it’s critical to maintain the momentum towards Level 2 by offering high quality, but lower cost charging solutions to our customers. We are excited to offer the Power Max, as it accomplishes this objective: a superior product at nearly half the price of the current products on the market.”

Bosch is now taking advance orders; the Power Max will begin shipping in early June, with initial customers receiving their charging station in late June to early July.

Bosch said it also offers professional guidance for customers purchasing a Power Max or other EV charging station. Trained Vehicle Charging Advisors will walk customers through a free on-site estimate, installation, inspection and ongoing support, including finding money-saving rebates offered by utility companies, government or vehicle manufacturers.

Bosch installation services include a 3-year limited product warranty, all permitting and many times filing rebate paperwork.

Electric charger manufacturer AeroVironment launched this weekend a dealer program that provides turnkey residential charging packages to consumers purchasing new electric vehicles (EVs) or plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).

The program, launched at the National Automotive Dealers Association Convention and Expo in Orlando, Florida this weekend, allows customers to finance the charger in combination with the vehicle at the time of sale.

The program, which is said by AeroVironment to be the first of its kind, makes dealerships one-stop-shops for EV drivers.

EVs and PHEVs typically come equipped with a Level 1 120 Volt charger. Through AeroVironment’s dealer program, new owners can now purchase an EVSE-RS Level 2 240 Volt residential charging station that reduces charge time by more than half.

“AeroVironment has decades of experience providing complete charging solutions that support the practical transition to electric vehicles,” said Wahid Nawabi, AeroVironment senior vice president and general manager of its Efficient Energy Systems business segment. “With our new dealer program, AeroVironment is putting the second half of the EV equation – the home charger – at the vehicle’s point of sale. This makes it easier for drivers to purchase, and for dealers to participate more actively in the evolution toward clean, electric transportation.”

Dealers will be able to offer customers various warranty options that match the financing terms of the vehicle. AeroVironment said chargers bought through the dealer program are installed by a licensed electrician certified in EV charging installation. If needed, AeroVironment also provides at-home, in-person support.

AeroVironment is the preferred home charging supplier of the Nissan Leaf, BMW ActiveE, and Mitsubishi i-MiEV.

The company’s line of home charging systems includes the standard Level 2 home charging system and a do-it-yourself wall-mounted “plug-in” unit that is available for dealer stock.

New Jersey-based Fuji Electric Corporation of America is introducing a new generation of UL-Certified 25 kilowatt DC quick charging stations for electric vehicles.

The new generation of chargers will be slimmer, sleeker, and Fuji said they will suit a wider variety of applications and site locations.

This marks the fourth generation of DC Quick Charger for the power electronics manufacturer, having launched the first model overseas in 2008 before entering North America’s EV market in March 2012.

“Over the past five years we have remained focused on continually improving our product to adapt to the evolving needs of EV owners and station owners,” said Larry Butkovich, general manager of EV Systems for Fuji Electric Corp. of America. “We’ve taken proven technology from our other businesses and applied them in new ways, such as the use of our ultra-reliable power supply and high-speed MOSFETs in our DC Quick Charger.”

Fuji Electric said it has emphasized the importance of using heavy duty material in the construction of its charging station to ensure durability in public locations.

Fuji says on its website that this new generation of level 3 chargers offers the ability to charge a 25 kilowatt-hour electric vehicle battery in less than 60 minutes.

Also, the integration of ChargePoint in the DC Quick Charger offers users the convenience of locating and reserving available stations via ChargePoint mobile phone applications for iPhone and Android, while being able to manage the cost of charging.

Two months after introducing a publicly available charging station at California’s Residence Inn San Juan Capistrano, station data shows a total distribution of nearly 2 Mwh of energy, averaging five users per day.

“The success we’re seeing with the charging station at the Residence Inn has reaffirmed our belief that the development of DC Quick Charging infrastructure is critical to the long-term success of the EV industry,” said Phil Charatz, President and CEO of Fuji Electric Corp. of America. “Fuji Electric will continue to invest heavily in R&D to manufacture products that will further enhance the EV owner’s experience and reduce the total cost of ownership for station owners.”

The new UL—Certified charger was recently displayed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV and is compliant with CHAdeMO standards, meeting all requirements for both small and large-scale installations.

The new model will be available for sale in North America in February 2013.
