Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid to Use NiMH Batteries

Subaru made headlines last week in New York by announcing its first production hybrid but the car will not use the latest generation of batteries for its new system.

Instead of a variety of lithium-ion chemistry, the XV Crosstrek Hybrid will use nickel-metal hydride batteries.

Estimated fuel economy is raised only a little bit from the standard car which offers 25 mpg city, and 33 mpg highway with a CVT automatic transmission.

Estimated economy for the XV Crosstrek Hybrid will be 28 city, and 34 highway.
