At the end of this month on the even of the New York International Auto Show, Scion will be unveiling a pair of conventionally powered fuel sippers.
The Scion iM 5-door hatchback (above, blue), and iA sedan are aimed at “young people” – presumably aged 16 to 116 – wanting practicality, style and engaging driving dynamics.
All we get at the moment are teaser images of these cars that are supposed to be easy on the wallet as they are easy on the eyes.
These are not hybrids coming from the division of Toyota, but more akin to a Yaris-spec car.
“We’ve been eagerly waiting for this moment and are excited to introduce our new Scions in New York,” said Scion Group Vice President Doug Murtha. “Both the iM and the iA are tremendous additions to our line-up and will appeal to young people with different perspectives and needs. These cars represent the evolution of Scion and are kicking off a new wave of momentum for the brand.”
The curtain comes off March 31. Pricing and specs will be divulged later but if the iM Concept revealed last fall in Los Angeles is any hint, these may be some neat cars.
At the time when we were there, there was some speculation reported by others this could be a hybrid, but it was not. The Euro-styled iM Concept looked like a hot hatch, but show cars always put their best face forward.
We shall see what the pre-production models look like in New York.
