Porsche already has two plug-in hybrids in its stable — the 918 Spyder and Panamera S E-Hybrid — and is adding a third ahead of next week’s Paris Motor Show: the Cayenne SUV.
The Cayenne S E-Hybrid uses the same 333-horsepower supercharged 3.0-liter V6 as the old non-plug-in version, but its electric motor packs twice the punch as before at 70 kw. Total system power is a claimed 416 horses and 435 pounds-feet of torque. The lithium-ion battery pack has 10.8 kwh of capacity, which Porsche — rather refreshingly — says enables EV-only range of 11 to 22 miles “depending on the style of driving and route topography.”
The revised hybrid system allows the electrified Cayenne to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in under six seconds before topping out at a limited 150 mph using all the ponies underhood, while top electric-only speed is limited to 75 mph.
Visually, all Cayennes have been refreshed for 2015, although the changes are relatively minor.
Final equipment, U.S.-market pricing and fuel economy figures haven’t been revealed, although the new models will go on sale in Germany in the middle of this October.
