I like the fact that the article emphasizes improvements OTHER than hybridization and electrification that can significantly improve fuel economy at a lower cost.

However, I do see another automotive Armageddon coming as these products get to market. It is not unlikely that gasoline prices will stay at current levels or even drop, if we begin to tap into more oil reserves. Look at how oil prices dipped in the mid-1980's and 1990's.

If this happens, the new, more expensive products may find low customer demand, and the automakers will have to eat the extra cost in order to sell them. The auto companies have had several near-death experiences lately, and another might be it.

I like vehicles that are small and get better fuel economy. But the rest of America has a very short memory, and will relapse into buying bigger vehicles at the drop of the hat. Just watch.
