As of 7 a.m. Saturday morning, Tesla had 253,000 Model 3 reservations.
The update, on the rapidly increasing and unprecedented pre-orders for a car that may not be here for more than a year and a half or a good bit longer for those well back in line came via Tesla head Elon Musk on Twitter, presumably at Pacific time.
His update prior to that was 17 hours before and the tally then was at 232,000 pre-orders.
“Definitely going to need to rethink production planning,” he had tweeted already on April 1. No fooling.
The count is due to be higher as this is being written 10:20 p.m. Eastern time (7:20 p.m. PT) as Musk said he would update on Twitter tonight for a three day total.
Musk had also commented that he thought on Friday April 1 it would have slowed “way down” by then, but the count is still ticking upwards.
