Summary: A $100 fill-up tends to get people’s attention, so it’s not surprising that the $3 a gallon gasoline Americans saw earlier this year has spurred lots of talk and lots of action on ways to save gasoline or find alternatives to it.
Here’s a rundown on what’s been happening:
More hybrid gasoline-electric models have been designed to join the party in ’07, including the Saturn Vue Green Line and gas-electric versions of the Saturn Aura, Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry, Lexus GS450 and, a year from now, the Chevy Malibu and Chevy Tahoe sport utility vehicle.
A report in August by the auto information Web site edmunds.com said high gas prices and government tax credits are combining to make hybrids more financially attractive despite their hefty price premiums.
