Summary: A $100 fill-up tends to get people’s attention, so it’s not surprising that the $3 a gallon gasoline Americans saw earlier this year has spurred lots of talk and lots of action on ways to save gasoline or find alternatives to it.

Here’s a rundown on what’s been happening:

More hybrid gasoline-electric models have been designed to join the party in ’07, including the Saturn Vue Green Line and gas-electric versions of the Saturn Aura, Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry, Lexus GS450 and, a year from now, the Chevy Malibu and Chevy Tahoe sport utility vehicle.

A report in August by the auto information Web site said high gas prices and government tax credits are combining to make hybrids more financially attractive despite their hefty price premiums.
