Actually to correct myself, the Volt’s pure electric range is over 3 times that of the plug-in Prius. If you drive the Plug-in Prius even a little hard, it switches on it’s internal combustion engine with a loud groan and suddenly you’re not driving an electric car anymore. I regularly drive my Volt at greater than 70 mph and the internal combustion engine generator won’t kick in at all until the battery is drained. When it does start, it’s inaudible at highway speeds and is only used to provide current for the electric motor which provides propulsion. The Volt is really a much better driving experience and an amazing innovation that the US should be very proud of. The plug-in Prius is very efficient relative to a normal internal combustion auto but it’s just not in the same league as the Volt.

I own a 2012 Volt and I can tell you having driven the plug-in Prius & the Volt, there’s no comparison. The Volt has twice the electric range and is better handling and has a much better driver experience. The fit & finish on the Volt transcends any GM car I’ve ever driven and is easily on a par with anything from Japan. It also creates jobs for Americans and a much needed boost for the most economically hard hit areas of the US. I’ve been driving for 30 years and have owned many cars and my Volt is by far the most economical & fun car I’ve ever owned. Drive it you’ll like it!

I expect all the Toyota dealers receiving their first Prius PHV’s will study this article with car. They could use the whole list and add and add number nine “and its cheaper to buy and cheaper to drive than a Volt.”
