It was tough to make sense of Chrysler’s forays into hybrids and other advanced fuel-saving vehicles several years ago. Projects have come and gone, including talk of a potential hybrid Dodge Ram pickup that never was produced, and Dodge Grand Caravan reportedly being developed. Tellingly, in November 2011 Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said he would build hybrids reluctantly. In his view they cost too much to produce, did not sell well enough, and were needed mainly to meet tighter regs. In October 2013 the company said it was entering a partnership towards hybridization, and this year it said it would have a plug-in minivan maybe in 2015. This came as welcome news to soccer moms and growing familes everywhere.
