Luxury Hybrid Cars
Hybrid, diesel, and now electric technologies break the link between great efficiency and the stripped-down econobox. Thanks to these relatively new types of vehicles, car buyers with deep pockets no longer need to compromise on ride quality or luxury features in order to save fuel and protect the environment. On the other hand, hybrid and electric car makers have a habit of emphasizing larger engines with hybridized models and greater speed potential. This is in large part because luxury car sellers are catering to perceived buyer expectations. Luxury class alternative energy cars may thus also be called “performance” hybrids or EVs (like Tesla’s Model S) and their makers are loathe to have them seem too tame next to gas-powered competitors.
