When I was researching hybrid cars before buying my 2007 Prius, I noticed that no one ever figured in the 20%+ annual rise in fuel prices (since 2000 and continuing). As there is no indication that this won’t continue indefinately, crossover is closer to two years rather than five on fuel savings/over increased monthly payment.
