I had the same problem. I complained to Honda about the reduced mileage since the update. They did something and the mileage was better for a while and dropped again. I received a letter about a week ago saying there is a recall on the 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid's IMA system for certain VIN numbers and that I would have to take it in to see if mine is one that is recalled. I plan to take it on my next service to Honda to complain about the reduced MPG again and the posssible recall on my vehicle. It is frustrating when you buy a vehicle to save money on fuel and it does not get what promised. So, again I will be pleading my case to Honday about the reduced MPG again and hopefully get results.

You are CORRECT! If you're set on a hybrid, nothing matches a Prius for mileage. When I traded in my older Acura for a new Prius, my Toyota dealer gave me $2000 more for my Acura than the Honda dealer was willing to give me for a new car there. It was a no brainer, and I am happy with my new red Prius. If I allow anyone else to jump into my vehicle such as a car wash or valet parking attendant, I check to make sure that the person is familiar with hybrid technology and will know how to start, stop, and park the vehicle. Right now with a 2011 Prius you get 2 years of maintenance services FREE, and my dealership also provides FREE car washes for as long as I own the vehicle and bring it there for a wash. The electric motor is warranited for 8 years /100,000 miles, so I will probably trade the car in around that time if not sooner. I am just not one to keep any car too much longer. Life is short---I like NEWER lol
We've had a Civic Hybrid since 2007. As the article stated, the recall software reboot, "to save the batteries" reduced our gas mileage to below 38mpg. THAT is very unpalatable to us, since they advertised the car as getting 48mpg and the EPA sticker numbers said that as well.

The car looks good, but it does not perform well. If we had to do it over again, we would buy the Toyota Prius because that car actually does get about 48mpg.
