Golf GTE Plug-in Hybrid Wagon Spied In California

A private individual near the San Francisco airport snapped and today posted a photo to an enthusiasts’ forum of a Volkswagen GTE plug-in hybrid wagon – a car that’s not in production anywhere, not even Europe.

Could this plug-in sportwagen be coming to the U.S.? No telling, or even yet whether it’s slated for Europe though obviously that’s possible.

To date, Volkswagen has only announced its Golf GTE which delivers 31 miles electric range, 7.6-second 0-60, and 135 mph top speed.

The U.S. is slated to be getting only the Golf GTE and Golf Sportwagen. People wanting to see a bit more utility mixed with more spice from a car that can do much of what a Chevy Volt can may hope to see this car come to U.S. dealer showrooms as well.

More likely though is the automaker would announce it for Europe first. If that happens, it is not out of the question that one day this sharp-handling sporty wagon could find its way to the U.S.
