		<description><![CDATA[Magnesium alloy has been used in various application for weight saving for a long time.  Apple use it a lot in its electronics.  We use them at work to reduce product weight.  However, it cost about 2x to 3x more in comparable AL or Steel product.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It is also more diffcult to &quot;repair&quot;.  So the insurance cost will be higher.  But using it in key areas will significantly reduce the weight with sacrificing rigidity.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Carbon fiber is an okay product in certain locations.  Making it reliable for all temperature range and last over decades will add significant cost comparing to old fashion steel.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I expect the future high performance vehicles will be a mixed bag of Steel, Aluminum, Magnesium, Carbon fiber in its respective key locations...  Use where it is far superior and matters.&lt;br /&gt;

		<description><![CDATA[My experience with magnesium is a limited, but not zero.  It is almost impossibility light.  I watched two men move a 20 foot long centrifuge arm that was mostly two magnesium I beams.  It looked like it should weigh a ton.  I asked and they said it took two people just because it was awkward.  They let me pick it up.  It was amazing how little it weighed.  Back in my youth I raced sprint go carts.  I had real magnesium wheels.  They were great until you had a small accident.  The wheels would shatter and cost was inversely proportional to weight.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I wonder if all of the manufactures have skunk works projects using magnesium, Ti and carbon fiber as replacements for current materials.  Carbon fiber has won (at least for now) for bicycles and racing boats.]]></description>
