Clean Diesel 101

The Dodge Ram Bluetec, unveiled in 2007, is a heavy pickup truck powered by a 6.7 liter Cummins turbodiesel engine that meets the federal diesel truck emission standards that are set for 2010. It incorporates a Bosch high- pressure common rail fuel system, and is a first-time application of the nitrogen oxide absorber device in a diesel powertrain. This technology reduces NOx emissions by nearly 90 percent and eliminates virtually all particulates emitted from the burning of diesel fuel. The Ram Bluetec would be the cleanest, most efficient full-size truck to hit the mainstream market—but so far has only be released in a limited production run for commercial fleets.
