Clean Diesel 101

New cleaner-burning ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel is refined to contain 97 percent less sulfur than regular diesel. That’s 15 parts per million instead of the 250 - 500 parts per million in regular diesel. The introduction of cleaner diesel fuel is the first step toward adding advanced after-treatment technologies. California shifted all its diesel fuel to ultra-low sulfur in 2006. The deadline for the rest of the country to introduce ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel is December 1, 2010.
