Clean Diesel 101

Clean Diesel refers to a new generation of diesel technology that produces fewer emissions while maintaining diesel’s quick off-the-line acceleration. Clean Diesel commonly consists of three components: ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel, a common-rail direct-injection engine, and an exhaust system consisting of various after-treatment devices, such as particulate traps that almost completely eliminate the black smoke coming from the exhaust of previous generations of diesel vehicles. The final result: clean diesel vehicles limit the amount of dangerous particulate matter and smog-producing oxides of nitrogen coming from diesel engines.
