What kind of hybrid

Hello, everybody. Here's a greeting from Norway, but I have to add a question also. Please feel free to comment!
The dicussion around hybrid cars in Norway tends to conclud that there is no big time savings in CO2 emissions as long as the main engine is running on petrol/diesel. As we all know, the electric engine runs only at low speeds, at least in general. Does anybody know what the savings in CO2 emissions would be in the case where the main engine runs on LPG? Have any car manufactures tried this out, yet, or will the batterystack and LPG tank occupy far to much space?
