Well I took the 'plunge'.

Created March 8, 2007, at 4:42 pm by Collin Burnell

I will soon be the proud (hopefully) owner of a Nissan Altima Hybrid. I live in Las Vegas and found exactly the car I wanted on nissanusa.com. I contacted the dealer (Empire Nissan, Ontario, California) and put a deposit on it over the phone. They discounted the car $1000 off of list ($26,415). I was satisfied with that. I am picking up the car this Saturday (3/10/07) and I am very excited.

I am in LOVE!

This car is fantastic!!!

It is FAST and drives great!

I already have about 300 miles on it and I still have more than half a tank of gas!

This is the perfect car! Japanese Design ;) , Built in America :p , Great Looking  , and Environmentally Responsible :D !

I could not be happier!!!

I am declaring myself the first Nissan (Altima) Hybrid in Las Vegas. I came home with the car on March 10th, 2007. Any challengers?

I'm glad you are enjoying it. I was a Nissan driver for 17 years until I heard they weren't bringing the Altima hybrid to Texas. I went out and bought a Prius but I'm curious how the gas mileage is so far.

i think the hybrid altima will be in 50 states in due time

Collin, so happy that you really like your car since I will have one really really soon....(doesnt seem soon enough though)

I had to wait a week for mine and I didn't like having to wait but I wasn't upset about a week when I talked to many people who had to wait several months for their hybrid.

lol, i know how you feel X 10

i've been waiting a long while for my hybrid...doesn't help that when i wanted it, it wasn't in production yet

You know it's strange. When I picked up the car it had only 14 miles on it and the MPG Display was somewhere around 15 MPG. I now have about 350 miles on it and it has climbed up to 31.5 MPG. I suspect it will continue to climb (which is actually kinda cool) for a few weeks. I'll keep you posted.

So, langjie...

Where do you live and where did you order your car from?

Here are some pictures.

It was a challenge getting them below 19.5 kb.

I'm from boston and I ordered my car from Clay Nissan. I'm hoping that the car comes in today so I can be driving it by friday *crosses fingers*

After a tank of gas, you should post your mileage on fueleconomy.com

Wonder about the tax Credit The warranty work, Maintance?

Yeah, but just make sure you can register it in AZ or else you may pay the registration in CA which is not cheap and then have to re-register it in AZ.
Maintenence is the same as a regular car. oil, rare tune up, and filters. My maxima had 100,000 spark plugs so I never changed them while I owned it.

The dealership in California gave me a 'one-way' tag which bypasses having to register the vehicle in California. I registered it yesterday in Nevada. $497 Ouch! That was painfull. Nevada may be the most expensive state in the country to register a vehicle.

But, no, you shouldn't have to register it twice.

Hey congrats!! I'm jealous. Maybe with many more hybrids in Vegas that smog will clear up a bit.

Colin just wondering about the trunk. I test drove the Camry hybrid and saw the tiny passthrough first hand. How is the passthrough to the trunk for the Altima (when the back seats are down)?

Sorry, No pass through! The batteries a vertical behind the rear seat. No split fold seat available. The trunk is kinda small. Maybe (2) suitcases and a carry-on bag, tops!

Hey there, Collin - congrats on your altimaH! Would you mind taking a picture of the trunk? (I'm in Chicago and wanting one, but haven't visited a state that sells them yet) Maybe throw a set of golf clubs in there so we can see how it looks in perspective? Thanks!!!

Collin-

I live in Las Vegas also and have been looking into getting this car... I would like to test drive it though here before I go out to CA and look to buy one... Did you find a dealership in Las Vegas that has the car to test drive or? I have never had a Nissan prior and am not sure how they drive are they similar to the regular Altima's? I am an Audi girl currently.. but would like to go to a hybrid.

Missv,
I don't think NV is one of the states, just CA and some northeastern states. When I heard TX wasn't a state getting them I lost my loyalty to Nissan after driving them for 17 years. Love my Prius :)

I don't mind giving you a test drive.

Give me a call 528-9777.

My son bought one last Friday at Nissan Village in N. Attleboro MA. for $400 under invoice. Convenience package, floor mats and aluminum door plates (list 26,585). I liked it so much, that I went there this week and bought one for myself for the same deal. Just got a different color. I'm replacing a Ford Explorer and look forward to saving lots of gas money. I can't believe the power of this car! We have the first two that the dealer has sold, and they look nice next to each other in the driveway!:D

hope you enjoy your new car

Dude that is one hot altima. :P I'm considering for our family's next car to be a hybrid but still trying to decide on what we should get. I am still kinda of waiting for more to come out before making a final decision. I'm sure other manufacturers will eventually come on the bandwagon.

Well I have just about 1500 miles on the car. It is displaying 35.5 MPG but I am actually calculating about 37 MPG's. Still riding great and I am still very happy!

congrats, your a true american patriot for buying a hybrid vehicle!!!

langjie says:

I had my dealer in AZ buy it from a dealer in CA (because the factory does not let them buy them directly) and they did warn me that they do not have all of the parts in stock, but that some of their tech were trained for the Hybrids. I bought it from Earnhardt Nissan in Mesa.

The tax credits are a Federal program, so they are applicable to all 50 states, as long as you purchase instead of leasing.

I bought a Nissan Altima Hybrid in August and I love it. I had to jump through some hoops to get it here in Arizona, but I finally got it. I got the full package (with Nav, leather, etc.) since I hope to not have to buy a car for at least 5 years. I bought it to take advantage of the tax refunds, since if you lease you can’t get rebates.

I really love the car so far. I trade in an SUV which used to get me 14 MPG with my driving style. The Altima has gives me 31 MPG so far, but I have also adjusted my driving style a bit, since I can only use EV under 40 mph. By the end of my time in the SUV, I tried hard to increase MPG but only got up to 16 MPG.

So, right off the bat, I’m saving about half with each fill up. Granted, I bought it in the middle of summer, where the temps go above 110 F, so I’ve had to use the A/C a lot! My last fill-up was 10/8, 16.32 gallons, 481.5 miles, avg. MPG 31. I’m hoping it will improve once the weather improves.

The trunk space is still pretty big, though the batteries take up a good chunk of the back of the trunk. (Its been hard adjusting from the space in the SUV to the car. Where do I put my ladders now?)

I’ve noticed a few places where you can tell Nissan took shortcuts in the interior and such, but the keyless entry/start is cool and the tech package has bluetooth phone, iPod connection, navigation, XM radio and even traffic warnings.

So far, I’m happy with it. In fact I love it.

cool, congrats!

i'm loving mine too, best tank i've had i went to 708 miles with an 18.5 gallon fill up

Hi all,

New proud owner of the Altima hybrid as of today. Like another poster, I also purchased mine in N. Attleboro MA. Jeez I love this car so far. I got an 07 model off the lot. It has the convenience package and a sunroof, It listed for 28 and change. I have no idea if I got a good deal, been buying cars for 30 years and never really knew what a good deal was. But I paid 23.5K for this one, and they threw in a portable navigation system. (they had a special for remote car starters until I explained to them that it wouldn't work in a hybrid, so they changed it to the nav system)

I also live in TX and am getting ready to buy a hybrid and am researching the options...why are some of these only offered in certain states?
I'm willing to pay somewhat extra considering the many reasons to go to a hybrid but am not sure why they have chosen to not make models available to all consumers equally.

langjie says:

the NAH is only available in states who have adopted CA emission standards
