VW Clean Diesels eligible for Alternative Motor Vehicle Federal Tax Credit

Title says it all. I'm glad to see other high mileage cars also getting a share of the tax incentives. Read the announcement here:

For the diesel nay-sayers, this should help in the cost-benefit analysis (which is something hybrid buyers have always fought against as well). Also note the * at the bottom:

*29 city / 40 highway EPA estimates. 38 city / 44 highway real world fuel economy based on AMCI testing. Your mileage may vary.

Based on reports of those who have been taking the dealer demo cars out for a spin (see tdiclub.com news forums), the AMCI estimates are more realistic than the EPA's, which isn't surprising. VW TDI's usually exceeded the old EPA ratings, so exceeding the new ones should be easy...
