Used FEH warranty transfer

Created December 13, 2008, at 12:00 pm by mistermango

I am considering buying a used FEH and have a couple of factory warranty questions.

What factory warranties are offered on FEH?
Are the hybrid components and the drivetrain warranted separately?
How do the warranties differ from 2005 to 2008?
Are warranties transferred from one owner to the next?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

The warranty transfer is handled by Ford the first time you bring it in to a dealer. The factory bumper-to-bumper is 36 months/36,000 miles. The hybrid-specific high voltage battery, transaxle, and DC/DC converter are covered for 8years/100,000 miles in non-CARB states. In CARB states it is 10years/150,000 miles. To get the CARB warranty the vehicle had to have been sold new in a CARB state and registered in a CARB state when warranty work is requested.

I'm not trying to pick a fight here, but why do people post questions on this site that they could just as easily ask of a dealer or find on the manufacturer's web site?

Thanks, cobrajet_carl, for the information.

For me, mdensch, someone who is well-versed in finding information on the Web, the reason for asking such an "easy" question is two-fold...

First, I have been given erroneous information from salesmen at dealerships before and do not always trust them. Plus, I am buying a used car, probably not from a dealer, so would have to call a dealership up specifically to ask this question.

What's the difference in me asking a dealership the questions I posed above and posing them to this forum? I trust cobrajet_carl's warranty digest much more than some sleazy salesman who is trying to get me into a car.

Second, go to this page (http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/content/~WO6HEV/~MUS~LEN/41/06hevw...). Now put yourself in my shoes -- someone with zero background in car warranties and four specific questions that need to be answered. Before posting my questions to this forum, I looked at that pile of legal crap offered up by Ford and was only able to answer two of them.

I've lurked around enough to know there are people here (like cobrajet_carl) that are kind enough to distill the information found in Ford's 32-page warranty booklet for me. Plus, I thought my questions might provide answers for others with the same queries that are (perhaps) too scared of being lambasted for asking such "easy" questions to ask them.

Isn't that the purpose and beauty of forums such as these? (I'm referring to the free and kind exchange of information BTW, not the passive-aggressive fight picking.)

You have provided lots of great information to this forum over the last year, mdensch. I have enjoyed reading many of your posts. I would have thought you'd be more considerate of newbies seeking support from this wonderful community.

Back to lurking now.

As I said, Mistermango, I wasn't looking to pick a fight, just wanted an explanation.

Let me say this: I have no experience with warranty claims on my 2008 FEH (thank goodness) so any information I might provide would come from the warranty book that came with the vehicle.

A warranty is a legal contract between the buyer and seller. Whatever information you may glean from questions posted in an online forum, the warranty is, ultimately, what the manufacturer says it is, not what forum participants say it is. Get it in writing from the party that has to honor the warranty.

Good question mdensch. I agree with mistermango. Questions asked on a forum like this are often from people who are looking for replies based on "real world" experience. Things like warranty transfers, rebates, gas mileage, etc. don't always go by the book or the way they are supposed/expected to.

Hi,
We are a group of students from Imperial College in London and as part of our MSc in Environmental Technology, we are studying the comparative influence of several groups of parameters on car-buyers' behaviour. We would be very pleased to collect answers from car owners and especially hybrid cars owners in order to draw relevant conclusions from our statistical analysis.
By filling in this survey, you will enable us to collect valuable data for our research. Of course all these data will remain strictly confidential and anonymous, and will not be diffused to anyone outside the academic staff at Imperial College.
here is the link to our questionnaire, it should not take you more than 4-5 minutes to fill it in:

Thank you very much for your time.
