squeak in electric motor

my '05 prius is making a small squeaking noise when electric motor is operating. local toyota mechanic claims that this is a normal condition. has anybody else had a similar experience?

not me! ~ not in a honda anyway...
seriously though, i'd get a second opinon asap. while under warantee make SURE it's not a problem. maybe even call other dealer service centers. it's an easy cop out for a service guy who's stumped to say "it normal".
i'm assuming it's semi-quiet

I'm gonna second steve on that. squeaking is nothing to balk at, could be a faulty bearing or something, which is gonna suck big time later on. Problem is that there aren't many parts for the hybrid portions of these cars. So if you do get a second opinion, and it doesn't sound EXACTLY like "normal operation" but still smells fishy, start thinking about making them trade your car, or making them change out some parts anyway.
BTW, squeaks are also caused by brakes, and is a much more common occurrence. I know its kind of a no brainer, but best to cover your butt rather than look like an idiot for having a major engine component changed out for a faulty brake pad...hehehe....
