Won't start unless key is plugged in

What would cause the keyless start to stop working? 2007 Prius-had to jump start it once, from that point on it will only start with the key plugged into the receptor.

Do you have the "smart key"

Do you have the "smart key" system Prius? The key normally remains in your pocket, and you just have to carry it to operate the car?

The Prius computer has to be programmed to recognise the smart key. This is done at the factory for the two original keys. And a new key has to be programmed into the car's computer if you purchase duplicate keys.

Sounds like the computer's memory got erased (not "supposed" to happen).

Have you checked with a dealer to have the keys "reprogrammed" into the car's computer?
