    Stop Safely Now

I have a 2007 Ford Escape hybrid with 48900 miles. Went on a road trip and got about 30 miles away from my almost 400 mile destination and received the Stop Safely Now. Stopped the vehicle and restarted a few times and made it to our destination. It sat overnight and the rest of the time at my destination I had no problems. I changed the air filter for the battery cooling system and headed back home. 300 miles into my return trip I again received the Stop Safely Now. I would stop for a while restart the vehicle and would make it for a little while and get the Stop Safely Now again.
It seemed when I put the rear windows down and air was flowing through the car that I would not get the stop safely now. Coincidental?

As a side note Ford bought back our 2005 FEH because they couldnt fix it with the same Stop Safely Now error. I feel like and idiot.

    The problem is most likely

The problem is most likely with the electric MEC pump. Dealers charge about $600, but the pump can be bought for under $170 and it takes less than 30 minutes to replace. It is not yet a recall, but you can call Ford Customer Service and complain -- they might pay for most of the repair.

    go to: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/complaints/
then paste these ODI numbers to see similar failures:

    ODI Numbers for Escape Hybrid:
    10348540, 10360029, 10349760, 10326667, 10361122, 10329839, 10352951, 10376463, 10319247, 10351287, 10375585, 10355792, 10365841, 10353329, 10279505, 10328795, 10340467, 10356905, 10124042, 10284256, 10154170

    ODI Numbers for Mariner Hybrid:
    10353411, 10335380, 10334815, 10330798, 10374725, 10349490, 10342552, 10329183

This is a serious safety issue -- call NHTSA and register a complaint.

    This sounds real strange

This sounds real strange because has long as the key was in the run position, she should have had power brakes and power steering. The engine does not provide either system with power. The HV battery and 12V battery both provide 12V power to the brakes and power steering and both power sources would need to fail by a big short or something. The PCM (computer) must have shorted also to kill the engine.

This sounds like a need for the Insurance Company to do an investigation to determine what failed big time. The stop safely now warning could be from the damage in the accident.

    Thank you.

    Just experienced the same

Just experienced the same problem with my 2006 hybrid. Had been driving for about 2 hrs at 65mph, then stopped about 30 minutes at in-laws. Was about 15 minutes into last 40 miles on the highway when everything shutdown and only indication was 'Stop Safely Now' message on the display. Got to the shoulder, turned everything off, and checked outside the vehicle but found nothing. Got back in and restarted the vehicle then drove the rest of the way home without issue. I have to agree with the safety issue when things just shut down abruptly like that. Also interested in what the problem is.
