Considering buying a '08 Escape Hybrid.

Have a question on the '08 escape 2WD hybrid. I live on Maui and most of my driving is at speeds over 30 MPH. Does the electric power component have less or no gas savings benifit at speeds over 30 MPH?

The '08 FWD is a great vehicle and has gas saving benefits at speeds below 70mph. Above that speed, the small engine works hard to push it against the wind resistance, but it still does great. Drafting a big truck with a second to a second and one half distance behind will greatly improve MPG above 50mph.

Once broke-in, you can travel in EV at 35mph and increase your MPG average easy in mid to upper 30's. Using the A/C puts a heavy load on this engine because it's small and Atkinson cycle design. At highways speeds in warm weather, I use the A/C with less effects on mileage.

    Agreed

I agree with Gary (of course). Plus even if you are not often in electric mode you are still geting better mileage and also doing your part to help the environment! Go for it!

I agree too. I got a Scanguage II, and can see that the mileage is good for me around 60kmh, on level road with both engine and motor going.

Please don't buy this car until they fix the break problems. I have lost my brakes five times in 14 months. Thursday night my daughter and I were put in a very unsafe situation because the breaks disappeared while I was traveling on RT 80 in NJ. Trucks were whipping by me at 65 plus-MPH. Ford told me today they could not guarantee that the car will be safe to drive. They said all they could do was provide a warranty for the parts but they could not guarantee this would not happen again. This afternoon I checked the National Safety Transportation web site and there are several other similar concerns about brakes with the Escape. These are not safe vehicles and they had better get them off the road before someone is killed!

PS - The Ford employee who said they could not guarantee the safety of the car was Jennifer Polk.

    NHTsa.gov is the website

I did a search on this site for braking problems and found none!

    Here is the link: http://search.google.dot.gov/NHTSA/N...95.26&start=10

    Any thoughts?

    All cars have issues

Dont write off a good car because of some bad apples. Look at the Mariner as well. I am sure you could google any car and find a lot of horror stores about them.
