ScanG Question.

Created April 30, 2008, at 12:04 am by ranger1

Well, it took awhile before my newly purchased FEH 'demo' 2007 finally arrived via railway shipment. By the way, tho sold as 'new' it's a demo that got around, having some 20K miles on it (bout 32K kms). So, it's way broken in.

I bet it must be the last FEH 2007 in Canada sold as new!? So, I've been driving merely a few days now, and so far that little info gauge on the dash has been totally stuck at 23.5 mpg, and I tell ya, I am lightfooting it like crazy around town. What makes that readout actually ever change, its seems to be stuck on that number?

Next, tried hooking up the ScanG (v3.15) and so far, haven't been able to find SOC. Doesn't seem to be one of the listed readouts. However, as I drive about, the mpg readout, usually never says 23.5, but more in the upper 20's and low 30's, or 9999 if in electric. That right?

Anyway, a bit puzzled, as w/o SOC, which seems important, what is the ScanG really gonna do for me?

I assume the ScanG is giving U.S mpg, that is based on 3.8 litres per gallon? We're kinda used to the 4.546 galllon!

And, yup, even more! When I first connected the ScanG, no key in ignition by the way, well I tried pushing a few buttons, just to see what was what and something scary happened. I have no idea what I did, but it caused clicking type noises to come from the engine compartment, so I quickly stopped. Still, I thought, hope I haven't done a No No! Is that possible with the thing?

I think you're seeing the same figure on the car's trip computer because nobody ever reset it. You've got 20K miles of averaging the mpg, so the driving around you're doing isn't going to dilute it enough to notice. Hit the reset on it to start seeing your own gas mileage figures.

I'll leave the ScanGuage questions to the experts.

To be clear, sorry, worked for the govt (CDN federal) so long in the habit of using K for thousands, it's 20,000 miles plus she be at. As I said a demo that musta got around. Demo tours they said.

No, I understood that 20K = 20,000. It is a common abbreviation in car-talk, too.

I repeat, find the RESET on the car's trip computer so you'll be reading your own mpg averages from now on.

To put that many miles on a 1 year old car, they were using it for more than customer test drives. I imagine the sales staff were driving the car for their own personal use, vacations, etc. It's a very common practice, but given how easy it would have been to sell the car at a handsome profit, I would've thought they want to move it off the lot.

.... the salesperson did mention that it was a fave of the two mgrs wives and something about Florida trips.

But the price I paid reflects it use, upper blackbook wholesale.

It's a darn nice vehicle tho, I keep going out to look at it. Guess new owners do that!
