Sales Prediction Contest

Created March 23, 2007, at 10:08 pm by Collin Burnell

OK, Lets have some fun with this.

Anybody want to guess the total number of Nissan Altima Hybrids sold in the month of March?

My guess is 2230!!!

Note: There were 206 units sold in February (first month).

Also: The dealership where I purchased my car in California had already sold about 10 of them (Late Feb-Early March).

I really think this car is going to do very well.

875. I'm guessing Altima sales of 25,000 in March with 3.5% of them being hybrids.

Winner gets Collin's Altima!

Well I guess I had better choose wisely. Oh yea! I already did.

875? That's all. No way. At least double that!:)

876....i'm that annoying person on price is right that bids 1 dollar higher

haha, no, my guess is 500...because of low availability of the hybrids most people want (non base model ones)

and when it does, the hybrids will start looking better again...

I'll say 700 for March. Doesn't seem like they've figured out their supply/delivery chain yet. When they do, they'll be able to deliver more. Also, gas prices will start to go up again soon, so monthly sales will pick up this summer.

Also, they offered voluntary separation packages to Smyrna, so that tells me that they're looking to scale back shift work.

I'd be gleeful if it were higher. Would love to see Nissan get a good story out of this, but it really doesn't look like they're trying very hard to do that.

sorry collin... langjie was close!

Nissan saw its sales of the Altima Hybrid, offered in only eight states, increase to 462 units in the car’s second month on the market.

It's still almost double February, so maybe March will be up to the 700-800 range?

I just watched Who Killed the Electric Car, so this sounds kinda eerie. The only reason Nissan poo-poohs the Altima Hybrid is becuase they aren't making money on them and may never do so. I bet this summer/fall when the Altima coupe is selling they won't be talking trash about it and will probably sell more of them than the hybrid. Oh well.

"i placed an order for a dark slate hybrid w/ tech package today. i live in mass, i got a $1500 discount for a car I'm ordering. ... my car will be here in a month, woohoo" -- 02-20-2007, 07:16 AM

so i guess they are a little slow in rolling out the cars, but at least it was less than 8 weeks. i ordered mine on march 5th so if i'm lucky mine will come around april 16th? sweet.

ok let me pick a number to stay on topic. i gave a range, but i'll pick the low end at 725 for april. come on nissan don't disappoint.

yeah, we're not even going to go in about the delays, i'm just really happy to have my car. i still think that the sales numbers will be a bit low due to lack of tech packaged cars

Nissan sold 483 units of the Altima hybrid, for 3.0% of total Altima sales. Sales of the hybrid are limited to 8 states.

i guess april was just between me and juxtapos99 and I claim victory for the second straight month

if anyone still comes on to this thread, my guess for may will be 500

475 - I don't see them pushing this any harder than they have already. At this rate, the tax credit to 60,000 cars will be around a loooooooooong time.

We've been looking at several different things from Trailblazer SS' to Camry's.. I saw the hybrid Camry and said to my self... 'self, that more mod money in my pocket if I'm not spending 500$ a month in gas for that beast of a truck' So I really liked the Camry Hybrid... THEN i saw there was an Altima Hybrid... I thought it was a typo! But.. its a tad bigger... and even gets better gas mileage!! 42mpg highway!! So far thats leading the pack!! Just wanted to let you know... :)

i was consider the TCH too, but then i just thought the altima look sooooo much sexier on the outside. and then i went inside a TCH and i was thinking to myself (and they say Nissan interiors are cheap?!?!??!) i didn't like the interior at all of the camry. doesn't matter if you get a base or leather, the interior is pretty much the same. i thought that the interior of the altima was much nicer then what magazines give it credit for. i have leather, btw, and i think it's close to lexus ES quality (not quite)

Gee, 10 days into July and nobody has posted anything about June sales yet.

Well in case you're interested:

804 Altima Hybrids sold in June

2,776 Atlima Hydrids sold so far in 2007.

This may not be quite statistically accurate but seeing how the NAH is only sold in eight states - if you were you to extend that proportionally to 50 states then the number sold would be 5,025 which is in the same ballpark as the Camry at 5,530.

Don't go trying to confuse us with the facts! Sheesh... ;) :p

i don't think it works that way though. if it was sold in all 50 states, then maybe you would have sales at about 3000, but the 8 states now have a higher tendency to buy hybrid cars

I believe you're correct.

I would imagine that more Hybrids are sold in California than anywhere else although I would think Nissan is missing out on some big states like FL and TX where Toyota probably does pretty well with hybrids. I'd be interested to know what percentage of NAH and TCH are sold in just CA.

The eight states Nissan sells the hybrid in are based on those states adopting the CA emission standard - not sure if that would mean that more people would buy hybrids for that reason in those states.

Edit - i meant to add the thought that I don't think those eight states were picked by the marketing people at Nissan but rather it was done to meet the requirements for the CA emission standard for those states. I'm sure the marketing people would have picked a different eight states if they wanted to maximize sales - CA would definetly be on the list either way.

i agree that the 8 states are CA emission states, but in general, those are the largest markets. (4 of those states are in the top 10)

The article in USA Today this weekend said that the eight states Nissan sells the NAH in makes up 25% of the US population. If you were use that number then total US sales so far would be about 11,100 if they sold them in all 50 states.

One figure I never see is how many NAH's have been sold in Canada - I believe they sell them there as well.

Nissan Hybrid Car Sales

Nissan sold 1,131 hybrid Altimas in the month of July. That's 4.0% of the full hybrid market and the first time Nissan broke through the 1,000 mark with their limited sales of the Nissan Altima Hybrid. Nissan sells its only hybrid in just the eight states with California emissions laws.
