What sort of financial benefit adding HEVs would have to a car rental company? Since the cost of gas is paid by the consumer, is there any economic benefit?

Theoretically, there should be a maintenance advantage since the hybrid shouldn't be as rough on brakes as a pure ICE.
I don't know that the realities have shown this advantage particularly, however.
I see your point about the gas mileage issue being moot economically if the customer pays for the gas.
There are a few companies in Canada that have hybrids for rent. Generally, they're classed as "Specialty", meaning that regardless of their size, the agency charges a premium fee for them.
So comparatively speaking, charging $22/day for a Corolla versus $52/day for a Prius -- that company can pull in quite a few bucks.
The Cdn government is starting to push its employees to ask for hybrids when they travel. The justification being (other than leadership and an attempt to stimulate the market) that although an employee may reserve a compact, most times they are automatically upgraded to a luxury or SUV class. They get the compact rate, but end up spending more on fuel. In the end, if they pay more upfront for the hybrid, less on gas it basically works out even in the end.

It's all about image, and hybrids have that good environmental image, so even if the customer pays for the gas, it makes the rental agency look better because they are being responsible to the environment.
Further, as hybrids become more popular, more people will request hybrids, and if one comapny has hybrids, then that comapny will get the customer.
That said, hybrids should NOT fall under "specialty" (like expensive BMW's). They should fall under the size class that they are, compact (except the Prius and Accord, which are midsize).
I remember seeing an article in the USA Today.
It said, that at one point, SUV rentals were more than a standard car. But now, with gas prices through the roof, and more demand for smaller, more fuel efficient cars, the SUVs have literally been parked (nobody wants them), and the companies are charging more for a regular car than an SUV.
So a rental car agency with a hybrid would certainly be a beautiful thing, but be prepared to pay for it.

Sony is planning to announce a massive battery recall of its own, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) confirmed.
The recall, expected this month, will encompass all possibly defective batteries, including those previously announced by manufacturers for specific notebook computers, said Julie Vallese, director of the Office of Public Affairs at the CPSC. But it is not expected to extend to batteries for devices other than laptops.

I am new to this mp3 player game so apologies if the answer to this is obvious, and I am being thick.
Bought the iFP599T, and loaded the iRiver Manager v3.0 software on my PC after reading about the pros and cons of this software versus UMS.
I set a directory up using my name (same level as root, voice and record) and a sub directory in it called "running".
I transferred a number of tracks to this sub directory no problem using the file transfer wizard. However, upon trying to add some more to the"running" directory tonight using the file transfer wizard I get the error message..
"Cannot open files in mp3 player. But if I drag and drop the files into the sub directory they go across no problem.
Am I missing something obvious here?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

"The managements of the Big Three have said all bets are off." Some reports may be without substance but others may be trial balloons for plans under serious consideration, Magliano said. "Nothing's sacred, because, to varying degrees, General Motors, Ford and DaimlerChrysler are in dire straits." That has obliged GM's management to seriously examine the merits of Kerkorian's proposal

DaimlerChrysler's efforts to wrest its Auburn Hills subsidiary out of the brutal competitive dynamics of the U.S. mass market have been dealt a serious setback. Chrysler is expected to lose $1.5 billion this quarter after being hit by declining demand for its trucks, SUVs and minivans -- proving that it all comes down to product. Well I don't think they care to much about this. There still are people with plenty of money, tourists or something like that and they definitely won't walk with buses. And I completely agree with them to be honest.
I don't know if there is any benefit but many people would rather spend more money then walk with buses. I think printable legal documents is right in the comment above. I wouldn't walk with buses as well. It's faster with a car and I don't have to stand everybody's smell.
