Prius recall computer reprogram
Created December 9, 2005, at 9:42 pm by Anonymous
Since I had my Prius in the shop for the recall (engine stalls) computer reprogram, I'm not getting as good mileage as before. I was averaging > 50 mph before, but it has dropped to mid 40's since. Weather has only recently gotten consistently colder, so I don't think it's due merely to winter conditions.
Anyone else had this problem?
Thanks

You are not alone. My father's went from averaging 46+ to 35. I called Toyota at 800-331-4331 & they suggested cold weather making the heater use more energy. I don't agree since it didn't get this mileage loss last winter, got great mileage in the summer with the ac running. Also, I live in Los Angeles, so its not all that cold here. I know someone else with the same result after the recall. I hope Toyota resolves this issue so we can get our mpg back again.

My 2005 Toyota Prius, purchased April 1, 2005, gave me 48.4 mpg on the first tank (392 miles, 8.1 gals. to fill). Immediately thereafter I took it back to the dealer to correct a stalling problem. For the next 6 months I kept complete records. Average mpg for the 6 months was 34.7 (5562 mi., 160.2 gals), a drop of 28% following resetting of the computer to correct the stalling. A peculiarity is that I've consistently been getting better mpg on the highway than in the city.
I've gotten no satisfaction from the dealer, the regional HQ or the U.S. HQ in CA. My only recourse now appears to be a suit under the Florida Lemon Law. Has any one else considered this? Undoubtedly it's a long shot.

I just sent a description of the mpg drop on my 2005 Prius, but I think it was sent without my email address which I'm providing below, in case any one wants to reply
