I have the same problem with
I have the same problem with my 2003 Civic Hybrid, for the second time. The first time the transmission was replaced under warranty but it has returned. Seems like a transmission should last for more than 45K miles.
I live in the MD suburbs and would be interested in the dealer and contact you have worked with. Thanks in advance
I purchased a 2003 HCH way
I purchased a 2003 HCH way back in January and it was a nightmare just getting the correct title paperwork from the seller (I bought it out of state). Just got it titled last week. I got a great deal on it at $3200 but it has 140,000 miles and now I'm seeing why. I'm experiencing the same grinding/lurching problems when accelerating and now the IMA light is on after driving only a few days. Plan on going to a honda dealership to have them diagnose. If they tell me it needs a new transmission, I will just ask them to flush it out with the CVT fluid to buy me some time (since I see this only lasts for a few thousand miles based on others' comments) so I can resell it. I'm obviously out of the warranty time/mileage. I'm sure I can get at least (if not more than) what I paid for it. A new transmission will cost me more than that.
Think I'm going to get a Prius. Way less problems. Wish I would have seen this forum before I bought the car. But I'm glad I'm seeing it now before I wasted more money on the honda hybrid.
As a side note, I've owned a 1997 honda accord for over 5 years and never had any major problems. If I ever do honda again, i'm sticking with the non hybrid models. Good luck to everyone.
My beloved 2004 Honda Civic
My beloved 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid has the well-known "takeoff shudder" for the second time in only 53,658. miles (as of 5/25/12).
This 'judder' was fixed before in Feb. 2008, using the "burnishing" method. The mileage from new then was only 25,617. miles. My dealer, Martin Honda of Newark, DE offers to repair the judder again for $640., Honda absorbing part of the (est. $1700.?) cost.
This seems to me to be a recall situation. The internet indicates many folks are having this same problem with Honda Hybrids. What warranty would go with this second repair of what is an obvious design flaw?
I am on the brink of abandoning my Honda loyalty. I'm afraid Honda will lose it's long-time good reputation with my large, extended family.
Kassi I am so happy to see
Kassi I am so happy to see that I am not hte only one who has experienced this weird RPM issue with the blinking light next to the D on the dash! Mine acted fine after I shut it off and turned it back on as well. I have not had my transmission fluid changed since I bought the car (oops) nor have I had the burnishing compelted on the car as suggested in earlier posts. Have you had any luck changing the fluid or anything like that?
