Automatic Gear Stick Hard to Engage
I own a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid (automatic), approx. 65,000 miles. It's been a wonderful car, no major problems, and continues to give us awesome gas mileage.
This past winter we noticed that it was harder to shift from park, to reverse, to drive. But it quickly resolved itself after we had a tune-up and we were fine for a few months. However, this past month we've had a VERY difficult time trying to engage the automatic gear stick. There hasn't been any "grinding" noises, and there's been no changes in driving (no sputtering or stuttering). You almost have to throw your weight into it! I keep telling my husband to take it in, but he has yet to do so. I hope there isn't a problem with the tranny, and I hope its a simple fix. So what's up?

Sounds like the linkage to me or the park detent.
It could any
It could any number of reasons (start clutch, flywheel, control valve, or even the HATF pump, etc) but regardless of what it is DO NOT procrastinate any further. Take the car in at your earliest opportunity as you definitely do NOT want the CVT problems to cascade beyond what little maintenance might have fixed the problem earlier in the game. CVT repairs can be VERY expensive so it pays to get with the program.
PS: When was the last time you had the CVT fluid changed and how often do you have it changed?

Well, its fixed! The cable
Well, its fixed! The cable that the shifter was connected to was corroded, and either the linking to the shifter, or the shifter itself, was broken.
Now it shifts like BUTTER.
Hope that makes sense!
Just for giggles,
Just for giggles, what part of the country do you live in?
I find it very interesting that there was that much corrosion in one of the parts that is monitored/inspected often (as per normal servicing guidelines).
how much was it to fix that
