why on those limited states? sounds like they dont want them to be successfull
Basically, Nissan doesn't. Nissan has always felt that hybrids are expensive and inefficient. They are dragging their feet while they enter the hybrid market. They expect limited sales, and thus produced limited supplies, and due to having such a small supply they have decided to sell them only in the states in which they feel will be successful.
Don't see why I couldn't buy it in Calif and then bring it to Arizona :)
Hey folks,
I've been gathering as much information as I can over the last months, and am pleased to report that my test drive of an Altima Hybrid the day before yesterday was excellent. I placed an order once we arrived back at the dealership!
Same! I've been looking at this car, my parents want to buy a Prius but I doubt its capabilities in snow & ice and I dislike its looks intensely. If anyone can tell me how to get this car in MD it would be much appreciated. Is it possible to go to a dealer and have them ship one in for a small fee?
I spoke with 3 dealerships in MD and 1 in Virginia (all D.C. area) and all said they could not order the Altima hybrid and wouldn't be receiving any. But policies change, so who knows maybe later this year they might offer the 2007/2008 models nationwide.
I made a few calls to New Jersey this week and Woodbury Nissan has a waiting list ($500 deposit) to get the cars as they come on the lot. They weren't accepting orders and they hadn't even received one hybrid yet. Today, XXXX at XXXX Nissan offered me a green base model hybrid that arrived a few hours earlier. I told her I want a slate colored hybrid with the Nav package and she said she'd look in to it. So far she's the most optimistic salesperson I've spoken with.
It doesn't look like many dealership are willing to place an order for me so I might have to wait a few months for one one in stock that I like. Though one concern is a new hybrid where the nearest hybrid-trained technician is 150 miles away. But this is the car I've wanted for the past year, so I'll take that chance.
(update: I edited out details! dang they might have gotten swamped! langjie was smart to keep quiet about his dealer contact info. Don't bother calling the Jersey dealerships closest to MD...the Internet sales department won't call you back because they are getting lots of inquiries. I figure they need to sell to the locals first before they start with us out-of-state people. Looks like if you want to be on the list or place an order show up in person for a test drive - shows commitment I suppose)
i placed an order for a dark slate hybrid w/ tech package today. i live in mass, i got a $1500 discount for a car I'm ordering. If you're from MD and you want a hybrid, you should just buy it from states that offer it. the dealerships around MA have plenty of base/convenience package cars available. i do think you can get a good deal on one, maybe not from jersey though because i think they know they are the closest dealership to the neighboring states
my car will be here in a month, woohoo
(editted out details) I found a dealer in MA whose website that says they can deliver a car to me out-of-state. Looks like they are the real deal. I'll call them later on today.
update: called them and now I'm waiting 2-3 weeks for a pre-production VIN, and then I can put a deposit on that car for delivery at the end of March (dark slate with tech/nav package). It looks like no matter where you live you can get an one, just with a bit of difficulty. Silly Nissan.
^ nice, where are you from anyways? did you manage to get any discounts?
I live in the D.C. area (Maryland side). I didn't even talk price or any details yet, I guess I'll do that when I put down a deposit.
if you were going to pay them a visit, i wouldn't let them know where you reside. if i was a car dealership, and i knew that a person traveled that long to look at a car, i would know i wouldn't have to take off a penny to sell the car....keep that in mind
Greetings,
I am new to Hybridcars.com, but I have been reading the comments on the Altima Hybrid. From what I can see, I love this car, I want this car, it is a great car. Problem: I live in Oregon. I have contacted dealerships in CA that have the car, but they are not very cooperative. I can't understand why Nissan is making it so difficult to get this vehilce. Do they want to sell them, or not? I hope they make them available to more people soon!
For a split-second I gave up and decided to buy a Camry hybrid (not a bad car, but the Altima hybrid is better and cheaper). Then I came to my senses - I've been drooling over this car for a year, so no way I can let it go that easily.
Don't give up. It's difficult but it doesn't seem impossible. Hey, if a CA dealership has the car you want in stock go down there and get it!
I put 11 Jersey dealerships on a list and I was going to call every one of them but I only had to get to #3 before I heard something that I liked. And, now I've looked at airfare so I can buy one in CT, MA or RI, if need be. The car I want isn't being built yet, so I have to wait a few weeks. Also, NissanUSA.com finally has the Altima hybrid to select for build/pricing. That's a good sign. I went ahead and built one and requested quotes from local dealerships. Lets them know I want one.
Who knows what Nissan's problem is. They have a chance to make a big name for Altima and Nissan with the hybrid and coupe this year but they seem to be making a mess of it so far. If they let everyone place an order, there would have been long wait lists and that news would have been free advertising, especially since there are no wait lists for other hybrids. But no they are dumb and want to keep things muted.
Check Ebay...right now there's a pretty one in RI for you. So, see how stupid this is? Eventually it will be just like the Prius where someone buys the car and then flips it for a profit. Nissan can't control what happens to the cars after they are sold, so why bother preventing sales to people who want the car.
^ pretty much they are only selling it in those 8 states for now because they have adopted the california emission laws. adding a hybrid keeps the nissan compliant (sort of like the CAFE rule). also, they are losing money in each altima they sell (i think because of all the money they spent on licensing from toyota). i do think they will eventually sell it in all 50 states though, it will just take some time...if anything, i think they should at the very least allow all dealerships to order one for their customers
you can easily go buy one out of state. there are a couple of dealerships here that say they will work with people out of state.
what did you guys want in a car? i know there's a fully loaded on in new york in dark slate/charcoal. that could have been my car in a dealer trade, but I live in mass and by the time the car would have got to me, it would have 220 miles. no thanks on that many miles, i'll wait 10-17 days for mine fresh off the truck
I was a Nissan owner of 3 vehicle over the last 16 years. Nissan drug their feet with hybrids and so I bought the Prius. It will take me something major to switch back, especially since the Altima isn't offered anywhere in Texas.
yeah that would have made sense. we'd gladly wait in line behind you all in those 8 states.
Looks like I'm going to get that car you turned down (yeah, I've been hard at work!). But something doesn't seem right. I haven't heard of any hybrids out with a tech package yet, so how could this one already be delivered and sitting in a lot? Either it's a mistake on the computer system, or this car was a pre-production test car. Well, I'll find out next week if this is legit. Geez I don't really want the first hybrid with a tech package that rolled off the assembly line.
it's not the first hybrid with tech package that rolled off the assembly line. california dealerships have had tech packaged hybrids for about a month. it took until now before nissan shipped to the northeast.
i think the one i turned down was the first (or one of the first) that came to the northeast
sorry i don't know what the dealership name is though
If anybody is having difficulty finding the exact car you want, let me know. I bet I can find it for you. The website is challenging but not impossible.
Yeah Collin....
where's my car? still stuck in tennessee? I know 1 other person who ordered a hybrid that had their delivery date pushed back by 2 weeks...i just hope that it doesn't get pushed back anymore
Sorry, I don't know how to locate an ordered unit. Did you put money down on the order? If not then I can locate a car for you.
Maybe waiting is a good thing...
You'll be more excited when it arrives. I had to wait 10 weeks for the last car I ordered. That was painfull. But, hang in there!:o
it was double painful because it was supposed to be delivered by last wednesday, and then i talk to them during the day and they said nissan just changed their expected delivery date....
there was one around here...then i think that car got sold.....oh well, my dealer has been pretty cool so far, i'll just wait it out.....6 days longer until it gets here, i hope

great pictures
I love the sleek look of this car, especially the way the dashboard lights up. My employer gives us $3k towards the purchase of any hybrid so I am seriously considering getting a AltimaH. Anyone have any dealer references for the RI/MA/CT area?
i'm sure there are several people here that can help you. i was in contact with a dealer in providence. email me at juxta... (this screen name) @yahoo.com and i'll send you his contact info and quote for the tech package (around 30,500). maybe you can get him to 30k which i think is the lowest one of these cars with the tech package has sold for.
i bought mine at clay nissan in norwood mass from Jeff Craig. 30865 w/ tech package. i think there is only 1 tech package car there now (green). they have a ton of connection package cars though.
can i work for your company? i want $3000, lol
I just typed in a calf Zip code in the build your own on the Altma web site. got the list of Dealers, Searched their inventory found what I wanted and called and asked for the Internet sales manager and made the deal and had the car shipped to me. :)
We live in eastern PA. After I did my research, I knew the hybrid Altima was the right car for us. We have two HS football players and they fit comfortably in the back. Anyway, some tips for ordering.....
If you are in a state that borders one of the 8 "delivery" States, it's not very hard for your local dealer to search their dealer to dealer database and find one. I actually walked into the dealer with a listing of New Jersey dealers that had Hydrids on the lot. The one we wanted...Red with Charcoal interior, Convenience package....I couldn't find. The dealer found it in Mahattan, and went and got it the next day !

Be sure your dealers service techs are trainded on servicing the hybrid. In adjacent states, Nissan is making sure there is at least one trained tech in each dealership, so they can service them, assuming someone from an adjacent state stops in. The futrther you get aweay from the 8 Delivery states, the likelihood of a trainined tech goes way down.
Some dealers in adjacent states are shying awat, some are embracing it. Be sure to go with a dealer that will service the car. Mine actually gives a lifetinme warranty on the drivetrain, so long as you service it at their dealer. They extended that to my hybrid vehicle too.
My dealer, Montgomeryville Nissan, worked very well with me to get what I wanted. I was the 2nd Hybrid they sold, the first to the dealers parents. In fact, if you want to go there for a look, let me know. They'll likely call me in to use my hybrid as the demo, as they typically don't have one on the lot.
(PS it was my wife that drained the battery in the earlier post)
I am in Baltimore, MD. and looking to buy a hybrid Altima. I spoke to a dealer and they seem to be able to handle ordering the car from another dealership in New York or New Jersey with no problem. I have a meeting with them at the end of the month. If anyone is interested in getting a hybrid in Baltimore, let me know and I will let you know how the meeting goes and the ins and outs of procuring a hybrid altima for yourself.
As a Canadian the Nissan Hybrid is readily available all across the country Perhaps it,s due to the smaller population, who knows! I have owned mine for about a month and a half, and wow is this a great car. The Quality is amazing, my previous two cars a Bentley and a Mercedes were always visiting the stealerships. Here in Canada there are no choices on options, the come one way, nicely equipped Sun Roof, alloys, all the usual. No leather or Nav. I was told the leather is not enviro friendly, Ok for me though, I wanted cloth. Dealer keeps phoning to see that all is OK, Mercedes listen up. Very pleased to date
maybe canadian nissan dealers are the polar opposite of US dealers. the US dealers usually don't care about you that much. anyways, glad you enjoy the car!
I have had just the opposite experience with the two US Nissan dealers that I have purchased and serviced my cars with.
Purchased my Altima Hybrid from Capistrano Nissan (California) and had a great buying experience (and price) and to date, excellent service. They always follow up with a phone call after I have had service (just had 15K service last month).
I also own a Maxima (purchased at Mossy Nissan of Escondido), great buying experience and excellent service when I was using this dealership.
I suspect there are still dealerships (US and Canada) that have poor customer service and with the slowing auto sales, the customer driven dealerships will out survive the poor ones.
Still enjoying my Altima hybrid, no major issues to date (avg 36+ mpg with mixed driving).
