Optional Spoilers on HCH II, increase in MPGs?

Created July 26, 2007, at 5:51 pm by AirplanePilot

Out of curiosity, do the optional spoilers for the HCH II; Front Under, Side, and Rear, have a positive effect on fuel economy?

I know that the lip spoiler available for all pre-2006 Civics produced a 3% increase in fuel economy, that is why it was standard on the HCH I (knowing this, if I would have purchased a standard Civic, I would have had this option).

Thanks for the responses,

If you are talking about the side skirts and the bumper (front and back) dress-ups then I am afraid they add nothing to the aerodynamics of the HCH-2. I know a few people who have performed those mods and they corroborate that view. Here's Terry's HCH-II:

Looks great, doesn't it?

In principle, we believe these skirts may actually raise the Cd to a higher value than the already great 0.27, particularly at higher speeds. In the end, it boils down to preferences.

Thanks for the answer.

Like I said, the trunk lid spoiler does provide a 3% increase in fuel economy: that is why it may be an option for the regular Civic sedan, but is standard on the Civic Hybrid.

However, as you stated, the other spoilers are just "eye candy."

That bra on the front is likely to do more harm to the aerodynamics than anything else you could add though.
