NJ Turnpike HOV Lanes

The NJ Turnpike Authority yesterday approved the use of HOV lanes for hybrids with any number of passengers (including just the driver).

The NJ Turnpike HOV lanes are between exit 11 (Woodbridge) and exit 14 (Newark) in both directions.

The NJ State Police state that they don't expect to have trouble identifying hybrid vehicles.

what is the benefit to the environment of using a hybrid car in an HOV lane when the car switches to gasoline at higher speeds???
